Dr Lai adalah konsultan di Rumah Sakit Spesialis Regency. Seorang spesialis terdaftar dalam Bedah Anak dan Urologi, ia memperoleh Beasiswa Bedah Umum dari The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow serta The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh pada tahun 1998.
